Ventriglias Appeal For Reversing The Decision From Higher Court On Portland Cement, SC Rejects
The case of Zambezi Portland Cement can be easily described as a long and sustained episode associated with blatant criminality. However, case has come to an end with the latest decision from the Supreme Court Zambia. The most surprising aspect of this event is that the case was started with the Ventriglias who were the major perpetrators in the Portland Cement Zambia case from the start.
After more than 1.5 years of the final verdict from the higher Court of Appeal, the Ventriglias decided to play their own game by challenging the decision at the Supreme Court. However, the infamous Ventriglia family simply forgot that Supreme Court if the highest legal institute of the nation and nothing can remain hidden from this institute. A bench was established comprising of three supreme Court judges. These judges identified a critical aspect according to which, any complaint or challenge against a previous court decision must be made within 14 days of the verdict itself. The Ventriglias surely did not give any regards to this legal requirement by making the appeal more than 1.5 years later. As such, the Supreme Court effectively rejected their case and also upheld the decision of the higher Court of Appeal on the Portland Cement Zambia case by saying that their judgement would have been the same. As such, the case of the Portland Cement Zambia can be said that finally settled for good.
In an evolving country like Zambia, corruption and unethical practices are common. However, it is the patience, perseverance and dedicated attempts from honest businessmen like Dr. Rajan Mahtani which helps in uplifting the people, the economy and the overall nation.
